It didn`t took long for me to kick off 2017. On the 3rd of January I flew over to Malaysia to visit the Genting Highlands, where we hosted the first big event of the year: ESL One. Even though I am absolutely no fan of Dota 2, the event overall was great. Malaysia is a beautiful country and the people are super nice and helpful – and Genting is a sick place, I have never seen something like that before and hard to describe if you haven’t been there. It is like a mix of a amusement park, a big shopping center and a skiing resort. I absolutely loved it, even though half of the place was still a big construction.
Originally I was supposed to do videography for the event, but due to illness of Helena I had to jump in as photographer. The main problem was that I brought almost no camera gear with me, but luckily we managed to get some gear for the 2nd day – the first day was a real struggle. So I was running around doing photos and videos at the fun, which was an interesting and exhausting experience.
Sadly the lighting was so bad, that is was partly impossible to take any good pictures. The lights were completely turned off during the game and the players covered in red/ green. Which is kinda sad, because I got so many good emotional shots, but either they have to be black and white and they are blurry because of low shutter speed.
I am kinda happy with the end result though, counting in all the circumstances. Could have been worse. Check out the photos below and let me know what you think.
